LeBron James, the reigning superstar of the NBA, sent a heartfelt message of praise to Victor Wembanyama, one of the young stars with a bright future in the game. Despite not being able to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to victory against the San Antonio Spurs in their second match within three days, LeBron James set aside talk about his own team to compliment his opponent. The name on LeBron’s lips was Victor Wembanyama, a young European superstar that the Spurs acquired with the number one pick in the NBA Draft 2023.
“He’s a special talent. Coach Popovich and San Antonio have a hundred-year star right there,” LeBron James shared after the 115-129 loss against the Spurs.
LeBron personally scored 23 points and led the game with 14 assists. Meanwhile, Wembanyama had a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds.
These stats may not be as impressive as Wembanyama’s career-high 30 points against the Los Angeles Lakers on December 14th, but they still made an impression on James.
More importantly, Victor Wembanyama and his teammates secured a victory, a feeling that the Spurs have only experienced four times this season.
Looking ahead to the match against LeBron James on December 16th, Wemby has been averaging 19.3 points and 10.7 rebounds with a shooting percentage of 44% FG.
On the defensive end, Victor is utilizing his long arms and impressive height, averaging 3.0 blocks per game (second highest in the entire NBA).
“This young man possesses truly unique qualities compared to the rest. While anyone can become a unicorn, Wemby is like an alien,” LeBron James added about the French rookie.
“The way he handles the ball, takes step-back shots from various distances, especially his three-point shooting with different techniques, not to mention his defense. The San Antonio Spurs have a rare talent in Victor Wembanyama.”
After two consecutive games in the past week, LeBron James and Victor Wembanyama will meet once again in the Regular Season. This match will take place on February 24, 2024, at the Crypto.com Arena, where the Los Angeles Lakers will host the San Antonio Spurs.
