Mr Tay’s post from October 28, 2023 announces that the top ten basketball players will receive a maximum amount of $750 million, setting a new record in NBA history. As the NBA season approaches, the sports world is gearing up for an exciting time with many players set to earn significant wages.
LeBron James is once again the top-paid basketball player in the world for the ninth year running, with a substantial lead of almost $30 million over any other player, whether they are in the NBA or not. The Los Angeles Lakers are also one of the favorites to win the Larry O’Brien trophy.
Forbes reported that ten NBA players, including James, are set to make around $750 million this year, surpassing last year’s record of $714 million. This marks a 120% increase over the past ten years. James alone is expected to earn $44 million from his two-year contract with the Lakers, as well as $85.6 million and a $97 million extension that will keep him with the Californian team until the 2024-2025 season.
Did you know that Shaq O’Neal and Jeff Bezos are reportedly interested in buying the Suns? In other news, Forbes predicts that LeBron James will make approximately $80 million from investments this year alone, which would bring his total earnings to an estimated $124.5 million. However, this is considered a conservative estimate as some of his investments, such as SpringHill Entertainment, which was valued at $725 million last year, are not included in this figure.
Coming in at second place is Stephen Curry, who will be receiving a whopping 48.1 million dollars from the Warriors and an additional 47 million dollars from various other sources. Kevin Durant takes third place with a total of 88 million dollars. This summer, James became the first active athlete to reach billionaire status, and he also made history as the second NBA player ever to achieve this feat – following in the footsteps of Michael Jordan.
