In a recent report by Yahoo Sports’ Krysten Peek, it was revealed that the Utah Jazz are considering giving Bronny James a shot by inviting him for a workout and possibly drafting him in the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft. With the 32nd overall pick in hand, the Jazz are eyeing the talented prospect to join their team before other teams have a chance to pick him up in the second round.
James had an impressive showing at the NBA Draft Combine, leading many to think his draft chances have greatly improved. Despite his past injuries and limited playing time at USC, he is still projected as a second-round pick, but there is a good chance he will be selected before the Los Angeles Lakers’ 55th pick. Standing at 6-foot-1.5 without shoes may have raised some doubts, but he countered that with a wingspan of 6-foot-7 and a vertical leap of 40.5 inches. In addition, he excelled in the three-point shooting drill, hitting 19 out of 25 attempts from beyond the arc.
During the last days of the combine, James managed to grab everyone’s attention with his performance in the scrimmages. Each player participated in two scrimmages, with James initially having a lackluster game, scoring only four points and grabbing four rebounds in 19 minutes. However, in the second scrimmage, James showcased his potential to the NBA scouts by leading the team with 13 points, including two three-pointers, and two assists in 23 minutes of play.
Just like most of the potential picks in the upcoming draft, James is considered a project player that teams will select based on his potential rather than immediate impact. He is expected to excel on defense and be a threat from the perimeter, especially with his skill in hitting catch-and-shoot three-pointers. With his athleticism, there is potential for him to become a strong scorer both in driving to the basket and in fast break situations.
